Lotion or oil: which is better for moisturizing?
The problem of dry skin becomes very relevant with the onset of cold weather. But what is better to use to moisturize the skin, oil or lotion? Today we will look at their main advantages and find out the answer to this question! :)
Standing in the aisles of your favorite cosmetics store, surrounded by a huge variety of jars and bottles, it is not difficult to get confused when choosing a skin moisturizer. After looking at the pretty labels and maybe a little sample testing, you'll put the oil or lotion in your basket.
And what is the difference between them? Don't they both offer hydration? Each of these products contains their own unique beauty benefits. Let's look at them in more detail.
Lotions and creams are designed to penetrate the skin quickly, providing instant hydration. The biggest advantage of using lotions is that they can contain several different skin-friendly ingredients at once, such as: aloe vera, shea oil, vitamins E and C, etc. Because the lotion absorbs faster than oil, it can be easily applied in the morning, even minutes before leaving the house. And also take it with you in your purse and use it at any convenient time.
It is not difficult to buy a good hand lotion in Kiev (as in any other city, in general). But don't be afraid to read the label. A large number of lotions contain harmful preservatives and chemicals, such as mineral oil, which is a by-product of petroleum refining. So if you decide to use a lotion, be sure to check the ingredients, and make sure you don't put anything on your skin that it might not like! :)
When using skin oil, it will take a little longer for it to fully absorb. But in return, you will get more nutrients, which will also be useful for the restoration and healing of the skin. This is especially true when the skin of the hands dries and cracks in winter.
Most oils (non-comedogenic) can be used on all skin types - even oily, breakout-prone skin.
This is why many dermatologists recommend trying face oil if you have acne or oily skin. After all, ironically, the oil helps to reduce the natural production of sebum, since your skin no longer has to compensate for its absence. The oil actually mimics the fat your skin produces.
I've been a fan of coconut oil as a daily moisturizer for a long time, and I often mention it in my articles. :) Coconut oil contains vitamin E, fatty acids, and even has antibacterial and antifungal properties.
The great thing about using moisturizing oil is that it comes in its purest form, so you don't have to worry about any unnatural additives or chemicals that might be found in lotions.
But keep in mind that the quality of the oil also affects its benefits to the skin. Look for bottles that say "cold pressed oil". Choose organic oils whenever possible, and avoid chemical additives such as fragrances (parfum). Oils are often infused with herbs, so if there are flower or plant names on the label, you've probably found a good quality oil. Your skin is just waiting for it! :)
Buying an organic moisturizing body oil is also not difficult, nowadays it is a fairly popular product, and in various variations you can even find it in the supermarket!
It all comes down to personal preference and time availability. The most important factor that should influence your final decision is your skin. Take a few minutes to analyze what level of hydration and nourishment your body needs.
If you are still hesitating which is better for the skin, oil or lotion, then give them both a chance! :)
The oil will work best when the skin is damp (eg after a shower), as the oil helps to seal moisture into the skin.
Immediately after getting out of the shower, gently pat your skin dry with a towel, and then apply a moisturizing oil by mixing it with the drops of water left on your skin. This will help retain as much moisture as possible.
But since the lotion already contains water, it can function as an all-purpose moisturizer that you can use at any time. Look for lotions that contain hyaluronic acid and ceramides - over time, these ingredients improve the skin's ability to retain moisture.
You can also kill two birds with one stone! :) Adding a few drops of body oil to your lotion will help hydrate your skin better without having to wait a long time for the product to absorb!
Regardless of which product you choose, let your skin shine with beauty and health!
