Features of electric files
In one of the previous articles, I told you what an electric nail file is. Today I decided to supplement my story and introduce you to some interesting features of electric nail files.
Electric saws save lives!
Well, not straight life of course, but definitely protect your health. :) Did you know that nail technicians who manually file their nails throughout their career are more likely to develop carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis and other nerve/tendon/joint conditions.
All those movements and muscles that we use for a certain action wear out our body over time. The power file lets an advanced tool do the work for you. And the process itself will be more accurate and efficient.
With a regular nail file, you are limited to a flat surface that is difficult to maneuver in hard-to-reach places - such as the cuticle area and lateral ridges. Also, removing the old coating can be a much more time-consuming process. Modern manicure and pedicure machines have become so specialized that we can now provide a full range of services even to ourselves, from start to finish, with less physical stress, much more accuracy and even more efficiency. Plus your arm, wrist and shoulder will thank you.
RPM means nothing without torque.
Imagine a car that can accelerate to 500 kilometers per hour. It's impressively fast! Now imagine that same car trying to haul a trailer full of unicorns. :) The same car, but now it's hard for her. She can no longer accelerate to 500 kilometers, and the unicorns have not moved. Why? Because the car has speed, not torque. The number of revolutions per minute is often the main indicator that people pay attention to before buying a manicure machine. But the number of revolutions per minute only tells how fast the nozzle can rotate. It doesn't tell us how well an electric file can function when feeding material, nor about its ability to keep spinning when it encounters an opposing force.
Torque is a really important factor in the operation of an electric file. A good manicure and pedicure machine should maintain the same rotational speed and power, whether it is rotating in the air, processing gel nails, or acrylic nails.
Often, manicurists who have purchased a low torque electric nail file will apply more pressure or increase speed on the machine to compensate for the loss of power. But it is this action that can lead to heat, damage to the nail plate, and other potential injuries to the client. With a high quality electric file, only a light touch is required, and the bits and motor will do the job for you. So don't get hung up on a specific RPM as it's not a good determinant of strength.
Say NO to vibration.
When working with a manicure machine, there is no such thing as “good vibrations”. Any vibration must be avoided. Some electric files shake so hard that you can feel them vibrating right in your hand.
What's wrong with vibration? In some cases, prolonged and incorrect use of the electric file can even damage the nail matrix. Vibration will also prevent you from being precise in the manicure process. And finally, additional vibration is also harmful to your health. The constant tension you experience while trying to maintain control of the nail file can damage your joints, muscles, and tendons.
When buying an electric file, hold it, turn it on and at maximum speed, in order to see if it trembles. A quality manicure and pedicure machine should not vibrate at all, even when turned to maximum speed.
Where does all the "magic" happen?
Many manicurists think that the motor of the manicure machine is in the same place as the power control unit, so they throw the handle from the electric file like a bag of potatoes. The tip (the part you hold in your hand) is the most important part of your electric file. It is here that the real motor and all the expensive parts and technologies are located. The power supply (or battery if you're using a portable model) is really just a power regulator that provides the right amount of electricity to your handpiece, allows you to turn it on and off and control the speed.
Be careful not to let dust enter the tip opening. Keep solvents and other hazardous substances away from your machine. And be careful with all cords so they don't get pinched, frayed, stretched or shorted.
Also keep in mind that, just like your car, the tip of the electric file needs an oil change at least once a year, especially if you work full time.
Blame the master, not the tool
An electric nail file is not a toy at all! When we see images of nail burns, broken skin, and cuts, we assume that the evil electric file is to blame. :) To tell the truth, a manicure and pedicure machine cannot do any harm until it falls into the hands of a "master lamaster". :) But how to learn how to use electric saws correctly? Basically, it's like learning to drive a car. It requires training, lessons and careful practice. You may have little "accidents", especially in the beginning, but the goal is to learn and improve.
Legs are a great place to start. Fingers, toenails and feet are usually less tender, less sensitive, so if you are just starting your acquaintance with an electronic nail file, I advise you to first execute the lower limbs. :)
I hope my information was useful for you, and now you are even more professional in using an electric nail file. Be healthy and beautiful! :)
