What is cuticle oil?

Cuticle oil is a moisturizer usually made up of, you guessed it, oil. J Made from natural, fast-absorbing vegetable oils, it is used to moisturize cuticles, skin and nails.

Cuticle oil properties

Protection and restoration of nails. When hands are exposed to excessively cold, hot, chlorinated, too salty, or soapy water, the skin can become dry and cracked, and the cuticles will suffer the same fate.

One of the benefits of cuticle oil is that it increases blood flow to the fingers. This activates the healing process and helps the skin recover faster.

Hydration. The main purpose of cuticle oil is to deeply moisturize not only the cuticle, but also the skin, the area around the nail. Cuticle oil stimulates blood flow to the nail bed and has a positive effect on nail growth. When the cuticle or adjacent nail is very dry and cracked, oil is the first remedy you should turn to. When applied correctly, it will deeply moisturize the cuticle area, repair the nail, prevent delamination and, ultimately, restore your hands to their former beauty.

When to Use Cuticle Oil

After manicure. Manicures tend to dry out your hands, so I suggest you use a cuticle oil to rehydrate and give a fresh shine. It will be enough just a couple of drops of oil, and a light hand massage. Most often, in decent salons, or self-respecting services, massage with cuticle oil is the final stage of manicure.

After pushing back the cuticle. Soak cuticles in warm water for a few minutes. This will help soften it up. After that, use an orange tree stick and gently push back the cuticles. Then apply the oil and massage your fingers for a minute.

Before bedtime. In order to make your nails look more well-groomed the next day, you can apply cuticle oil at night. No need to pour half a bottle on your hands, a few drops of oil will be enough. :)

While there is no definite recommendation or prohibition on how often oil should be applied to cuticles, some experts believe that applying oil too often can be addictive and cause excessive dryness after use. And that cuticle oil should only be applied when the nails are in very poor condition. I can not agree with this opinion, but, in any case, take this information into account. :)

How to choose a good cuticle oil

First of all, cuticle oil should be quickly absorbed and lay down in a thin layer. Next, pay attention to the composition. Standard cuticle oils contain one or more organic oils, such as linseed oil, apricot tree oil, wheat germ oil, lavender oil, or jojoba oil. Some cuticle oils may also contain citric acid and certain vitamins, such as vitamin E, known for its antioxidant properties. Do not be confused by the citric acid in the composition, because it affects the rapid absorption of the oil.

Can't you just use coconut oil?

You can if you just want to soften the cuticle. Coconut oil also has excellent healing properties, however, it does not have the correct molecular weight, which means that coconut oil will only work on the superficial layers, unlike specially formulated cuticle oils that are able to penetrate deeper.

How to apply cuticle oil

Just a couple of drops of cuticle oil is needed to achieve the desired result, as even a small amount can provide deep hydration. Cuticle oil can be applied with a brush, like nail polish, with an applicator or simply with a dropper. After application, the oil should be rubbed into the base of the nail with light massaging movements.
